The Process of Understanding a Parent with Severe Mental Illness is a personal and introspective publication that explores my evolving perception of my mother, who lived with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. Through a blend of imagery, textures, and visual storytelling, the book reflects the emotional complexity of growing up with a parent struggling with severe mental illness. The design incorporates eerie exterior shots of a home and blurred figures behind broken windows to evoke distance and fragmentation, while layered paper textures and scrapbook-like elements symbolize memory and reflection. A line weaves throughout, illustrating the downward spiral of her illness and the journey toward understanding after her passing. This project is both a personal narrative and a broader exploration of how research and perspective can reshape grief and empathy.
